The existing building, located above a school, demanded for a second superposed sport track. By introducing the changing rooms and other required services in an intermediate structural floor, our proposal challenged the competition brief which, instead, proposed a triangular volume attached to the new structure.
By eliminating this volume, our proposal generates a new public space for the city while reducing the enveloping surface and resulting volume of the building up to a 30%, and therefore its future maintenance costs and energy consumption.
The proposal aimed to be an opportunity for the city to generate a new urban environment connected with the nearby gardens of Sant Joan de Deu by means of new walkway, while proposing a simple, logic and compact volume.
